Dorset Employment Connect’s Careers and Education Expo is returning on November
18 and will showcase a diverse range of opportunities from butchery and marine science,
through to aged care and agriculture and everything in between.

This free annual event offers an interactive and informative day, full of possibilities for
jobseekers, students, and anyone looking to explore career and training opportunities.
Around 300 students from local primary and high schools will attend the event throughout
the day, alongside members of the wider public.
Around 50 exhibitors will attend the event, including the University of Tasmania, Australian
Maritime College, Dairy Australia, a range of support services, Costa Berries, Bridestowe
Lavender Farm, Barnbougle and the Blue Derby Foundation.

With a focus on fun and interactive opportunities, attendees can experience mocktail
making with Hospitality Tasmania, step foot inside the ADF’s armoured vehicle, plant
seeds with Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture or try their hand at forestry harvesting with
the Arbre simulator and much more!
“Now in its third year, the Expo is becoming a popular event in the calendar for schools and
exhibitors alike,” event coordinator Daisy Arnold said.
“It’s a great opportunity for not only students but also members of the wider public who
might be considering a career change or returning to the workforce, to explore the
education and training opportunities available.
“With access to a range of local employers, training providers and career services, the
Expo is the perfect opportunity to discover new pathways, gain insight into emerging
trends, and even make direct connections with local businesses and potential employers.”

Using timber kindly donated by Stronach, TasTAFE construction staff will build a mud
kitchen on the day. Attendees will be able watch this progress throughout the event,
while discussing the ins and outs of careers in construction with the staff as they build.
The finished product will be donated to Thrive Group’s Scottsdale centre.
Join us at the free Careers and Education Expo on Tuesday November 18 at the
Scottsdale RSL Club from 9.30am-3.30pm
to explore your future.

The conversations about pathways, pivots and finding purpose will continue the following
week at our Captivating Careers Evening on Tuesday November 25 at the Scottsdale
Mechanics Hall from 5.30pm – 8.30pm.

The inspiring evening will feature a series of panel discussions and keynote speakers,
including:

  • Tara Howell, award winning entrepreneur and founder of Blue Derby Pods Ride
  • Tamika Bannister, founder and director of Spotted Quoll
  • Megan Denne, Troublesmiths facilitator
  • Ronan Douglas, teacher and former Scottsdale High School student

“We hope this event is a source of inspiration for local youth especially but also the
broader community, planting seeds of possibility in their mind and giving them the
confidence to explore their dreams,” she said.
“Both of these events are an important aspect of our year-round dedication to helping
young people and jobseekers find meaningful employment and training opportunities in
    the local area.”

    About Dorset Employment Connect:
Dorset Employment Connect (DEC) is part of the Tasmanian Government’s Jobs
Tasmania network of Regional Jobs Hubs. Established in 2023, we bring local employers
together with job seekers, providing free and dedicated employment support services.
Project Y is a unique opportunity developed by DEC. The free initiative aims to empower
young people under 25 to build their future and create a skilled workforce for our local
    region while strengthening community connection.

Through the tailored program, we assist young people through the transition from the
education system into the workforce. We assist them to create a career plan, access work
experience opportunities and attend workplace visits, create resumes and cover letters
and develop their job readiness skills to help them thrive in the workforce.
