The Requirement:
By 8 December 2023, certain food services, caterers and retail businesses must appoint at least one Food Safety Supervisor (FSS).
The role of the FSS is to minimise the risk of customers becoming ill from food because of incorrect food handling. The FSS provides expertise and guidance to food handlers in the business by identifying and implementing procedures to address food safety risks.

The Training:
TasTAFE are offering online and mixed learning options and you can easily register online.
The online course can be done completely remotely, but you must be able to upload your assessments to complete the course, this generally requires a laptop or PC, not just a smartphone. If you are unsure, please check the technology requirements with TasTAFE before enrolling, and remember that there are computers available at your local library.
The mixed learning option allows you to complete most of the course online, and then visit a Tas TAFE Campus in Launceston, Hobart or Devonport to complete the practical assessment.
Tuition Fees start from $160, and there are concessions available to eligible participants.

- There are also various other online and in-person providers offering this course. Just be sure that your provider is a Registered Training Organisation, by checking that they have an RTO Number (usually noted at the bottom of their website).
- Be aware that this course is required by many businesses, and in-person courses will begin to book out fast. So the sooner you can start your course, the better!
