About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Forest Officer in our Inventory team to implement forest inventory programs and associated activities. This role involves coordinating and undertaking field inventories, research trial measurements, and integrating these measurements into resource inventory information systems. You will also contribute to other essential field activities such as boundary marking, eagle nest searches, and restoration planting as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct forest resource inventories and research measurements in native forests and plantations for internal and external clients.
  • Maintain and supervise the operation of forest inventory equipment.
  • Record all measurements using a personal data recorder, upload and edit data, and maintain accurate records of all field visits.
  • Process measurement data and related information using forest inventory information systems.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Provide practical advice to internal stakeholders on forest resource inventory matters.
  • Maintain high standards in inventory and research measurement.
  • Conduct inventory field audits.
  • Undertake activities such as boundary marking, eagle nest searching, and other activities as directed by district staff.

Note all STT staff are encouraged to be trained and participate as fire fighters during the bushfire season. 

About you:
Applicants with the appropriate combination of the following are invited to apply:

  • Experience in conducting forest inventories and research measurements.
  • Proficiency in using forest inventory equipment and personal data recorders.
  • Strong data management and processing skills, including experience with forest inventory information systems.
  • Excellent record-keeping and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Experience in boundary marking, eagle nest searching, or restoration planting is desirable.
