Location: Scottsdale, Tasmania
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
The Maintenance Trades Assistant supports the safe and efficient operation of plant and equipment across the business.
Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, this role provides hands-on assistance with saw setup and sharpening, machinery maintenance, repairs and general workshop duties.
This position is suited to someone practical, reliable and mechanically minded, who is interested in developing skills within an industrial timber processing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Saw Setup & Maintenance (Primary Focus)
- Assist with the setup, alignment and adjustment of saws
- Support sharpening and general maintenance of saw blades
- Inspect saw condition and report wear or defects
- Clean, maintain and safely store saw equipment
- Assist in ensuring saws are operating efficiently and safely
Machinery Maintenance & Repairs
- Assist with routine and preventative maintenance of plant and equipment
- Support breakdown repairs under direction
- Clean and maintain machinery and production areas
- Assist with replacing parts and basic mechanical tasks
- Identify and report faults or abnormalities
Workshop & Maintenance Support
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
- Assist with tools, equipment and materials handling
- Support maintenance scheduling and daily tasks
- Follow instructions and work procedures
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) requirements
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
- Identify and report hazards, incidents and near misses
- Participate in safety meetings and training
General Duties
- Support production teams when required
- Assist across different areas of the business as directed
- Contribute to a positive and respectful team environment

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current driver’s licence (preferred)
- Previous experience in a workshop, mechanical or industrial environment (desirable but not essential)
- Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)
Working Environment
This role is based in an operational timber processing facility and involves exposure to:
- Industrial machinery and equipment
- Noise, dust and moving plant
- Workshop and production environments
Strict adherence to safety procedures is required at all times.
