Job Description

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and safety-focused Port Operations Officer to join our team. This hands-on role supports the safe and efficient operation of port and wharf facilities, contributing to daily operations, maintenance, and contractor coordination.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a busy operational team, with good communication skills and a commitment to safe work practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, monitor, and report on all wharf and port facilities and activities, including identifying and reporting risks, hazards, and environmental issues.
  • Provide general support for shipping movements and port operations, including the issuing of permits.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleaning duties across wharves, sheds, pavements, roadways, and general port areas.
  • Escort and guide contractors on site.
  • Operate plant, equipment, and machinery within certification and competency levels.
  • Complete general administrative tasks, including record-keeping and ensuring all services are captured for accuracy.
  • Undertake additional operational tasks as directed by the Operational Supervisor.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Knowledge of WHS and environmental risks and hazards, with a strong commitment to safe working procedures.
  • Ability to perform manual handling and labouring tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience operating plant and equipment in a port or similar industrial environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and under direct supervision, including resolving work-related issues within scope of competency.
  • Basic to medium computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Forklift licence (required).
  • Drivers licence (required).
  • Ability to undertake general maintenance duties such as lawn mowing and brush cutting.
  • Ability to escort and coordinate contractors safely on site.
  • Ability to pass a police check.
