Job Description

Stronach Industries Group (SIG) | Dorset, Tasmania

Stronach Industries Group is entering an exciting new chapter with the installation of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Moulding, Scanning and Docking Line (MSDL) — a major innovation for our timber processing operations. We are expanding our team and looking for a skilled Wood Machinist who wants to be part of this next phase of growth.

This is an excellent opportunity to become an integral member of the SIG team as we modernise, innovate, and strengthen our production capability for the future.

About the Role

As a Wood Machinist at SIG, you’ll operate, set up, and maintain timber processing machinery — including our advanced new MSDL line — to produce high-quality timber products safely, efficiently, and accurately. You’ll work closely with the Production Supervisor and wider mill team to keep operations running smoothly and to contribute to the success of our upgraded facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a range of timber machining equipment (moulders, planers, docking saws, etc.)
  • Set up machines to required specifications and complete pre-start checks
  • Work with the new MSDL line to maximise quality, consistency, and efficiency
  • Monitor finished timber quality and accuracy throughout the process
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve machine issues to minimise downtime
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance
  • Collaborate with the production team to meet daily targets
  • Maintain strict WHS standards and safe work practices

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in wood machining or similar timber processing roles
  • Mechanically minded with strong problem-solving ability
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently
  • A strong team player who contributes positively to workplace culture
  • Eager to learn and work within an evolving, innovative environment

What We Offer

  • Full-time, stable employment in a respected and growing local company
  • The chance to work with cutting-edge timber processing technology
  • Supportive team culture with opportunities for training and upskilling
  • Competitive wage based on skills and experience
  • Career growth as SIG continues to modernise and expand
