Project Y is a unique opportunity developed by Dorset Employment Connect. The aim is to:
- empower young people to build their future
- create a skilled workforce for our local region
- strengthen community connection
Through our personalised focus young people will be invited to industry information sessions, workplace site visits and get free, ongoing mentor support. We will assist by:
- sourcing work experience opportunities
- helping to develop career plans
- creating resumes, cover letters and having interview practice
- discussing local options and ideas
- connecting with other support services and providers
- working on soft skills and other work/life skills
We’re aiming to assist young people as they transition out of the education system and into the workforce. Any local young person under 25 (or close to) is able to access Project Y, and it’s completely free. Simply email us at projecty@dorsetec.org.au for more information.
Project Y in Action!
Each week the Project Y crew are visiting local businesses to get behind the scenes tours, explore pathways to work, find out more about local industries and speak to potential employers. There are no costs involved and all transport is provided.
We are also exploring other aspects of work and life, from courses and resume writing, through to resilience, respect and team work.
WEEK ONE: TasNetworks, Stronach Industries Group, Woodlea Nursery
WEEK TWO: North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital, May Shaw
WEEK THREE: Flinders Island Aviation, Bass Strait Freight, Clovelly Dairy
Thank you to the local businesses who are opening their doors and welcoming us, with fantastic tours, insights and experiences.
